Liz Douglas - A Life in Art

Liz had been fit and healthy and in the midst of a productive flow of work when, in early 2022, she became ill with cancer and died three months later. Her sudden loss came as a huge shock to all of us.

As a personal tribute, I resolved to mount an exhibition showing her art from pre-art college right up to the present. With the whole-hearted support from staff at LiveBorders, an exhibition was planned for the beautiful gallery in Peebles Museum and Library.

While preparing for this, in collaboration with Avril Nicol of the &Gallery in Edinburgh who has regularly exhibited Liz’s paintings over the past nine years, the idea came to produce a publication to accompany the exhibition. This aims to outline the development of Liz’s art practice and ideas as she researched particular subjects in carefully chosen sites across Scotland out of which she produced different series of paintings and other artworks.
